Memorial Day is for reflecting and honoring members of the military who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to ensure and protect our American way of life. As the country struggles with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve all had to adjust to a new normal – a ‘normal’ that relies on members of the community putting American needs above their own. They have been called ‘essential’ by the media, but we know them as our family members, friends, and neighbors.
This Memorial Day Weekend, as we honor our fallen heroes, we can also take a moment to recognize the heroes that surround us every day. Our nurses, doctors, teachers, first responders, grocery store workers and logistics personnel. Thank you to those of us willing to step up in any capacity, whether its delivering food to an elderly neighbor or simply putting others first. Our way of life might be changing, but the American spirit that unites us all remains steadfast - and is on display in its greatest glory when we as a nation are faced with adversity.
This Memorial Day Weekend, in addition to our military heroes, honor those who have put our country above their own needs. And take solace that our very willingness to sacrifice will surely win us the day, no matter the odds.
