Horsham, PA (October 2, 2019) – The Sharp Financial Group (“Sharp”), an integrated financial management firm providing unified business advisory, accounting, tax and wealth management, announced that under the leadership of its Chief Investment Officer, Alain Van Loo, the first event in the 2019-2020 campaign of Money Marketeers of New York University (NYU) was a resounding success. Alain was recently named President of the 2019-2020 term for, a 501(c)(3) charity.
On September 24, at The Down Town Association in New York City, distinguished speaker James Grant presented to a packed audience of financial industry professionals. Mr. Grant began his presentation by giving a history lesson on interest rates going back to ancient times through the last few hundred years. He pointed out that interest rates are at all-time lows which should cause significant concern, especially in light of policies (such as quantitative easing) that central banks have implemented over the last decade. Mr. Grant warned that the global economy could find itself in a difficult situation and concluded that valuations should be closely monitored as the real value of money is up for discussion.
Mr. Grant was born in 1946, the same year interest rates put in their mid-20th century lows. Following a stint at Barron's, he founded Grant’s Interest Rate Observer, a twice-monthly journal of the financial markets, in 1983, two years after interest rates recorded their modern-day highs. Mr. Grant is a 2013 inductee into the Fixed Income Analysts Society Hall of Fame, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and a trustee of the New-York Historical Society.
"Now more than ever, having a principled voice to provide context and guidance on where our market may be going and the state of modern monetary policy is of utmost importance," explained Alain. "On behalf of leadership, members and other attendees, I would like to express my gratitude to Mr. Grant for presenting to us and sharing his wisdom. Having direct access and interaction with Mr. Grant at the event is what makes Money Marketeers so special. We look forward to hosting our next event in November!"
